Who we are

The Founding of the Boaz Ramos Veterans Association

A Mission Born From Service, Struggle, and Community

The Boaz Ramos Veterans Association (BRVA) was founded on a simple but powerful belief: when veterans thrive, communities thrive — and when communities come together, no veteran is left behind.

BRVA emerged from lived experience, personal loss, and a deep conviction that the systems meant to support veterans were too fragmented, too slow, and too disconnected from the realities veterans face every day. What began as a grassroots effort to help local veterans in crisis has grown into a regional movement for unity, wellness, and transformation across Volusia and Flagler Counties.

Our Mission Statement

The Boaz Ramos Veterans Association is dedicated to strengthening veteran wellbeing through community connection, mental health support, suicide prevention, and multi-sector collaboration. We unite government, healthcare systems, law enforcement, Veteran Service Organizations, faith communities, and local partners to build a connected ecosystem where every veteran has access to purpose, support, and whole-person wellness.

We believe in:

  • Interconnectedness — veterans are part of a larger community that must work together

  • Compassion — every veteran deserves dignity, understanding, and support

  • Action — real change requires coordination, evidence, and shared responsibility

  • Prevention — upstream mental health and belonging are essential to saving lives

  • Empowerment — veterans thrive when they have purpose, identity, and community

BRVA is the “golden thread” that weaves these partners together.

As your Harmony Project document states:

“BRVA serves as the central organizing hub — the ‘golden thread’ — connecting county governments, law enforcement agencies, hospital systems, behavioral health providers, VSOs, faith communities, schools, and nonprofits into a unified ecosystem.”

Alexander’s vision turned BRVA from a grassroots effort into a regional force for change.

Why We Were Created

BRVA was founded because veterans deserve:

  • A community that understands their unique experiences

  • A support system that works together, not in silos

  • Access to mental health care without stigma

  • A sense of belonging after military service

  • A path to purpose, identity, and connection

  • A network that prevents crisis before it happens

Too many veterans were falling through the cracks — not because people didn’t care, but because systems weren’t connected.

BRVA was created to fix that.

Our Founding Values

1. No Veteran Should Ever Feel Alone

Isolation is one of the strongest predictors of crisis. BRVA builds community around every veteran.

2. Collaboration Is the Key to Transformation

We unite partners who have never worked together before.

3. Evidence Creates Change

Our empirical data framework turns community needs into actionable insights.

4. Wellness Is Whole-Person

Mental, physical, emotional, social, and spiritual health are inseparable.

5. Service Is Our Legacy

We honor Boaz Ramos by serving those who served.
